Our history
Four owners, three generations, one family, and one value system that has served the company for nearly a century.
In 1935, at the cross streets of Houston and Leona (near the present-day location of the UTSA downtown campus), original owner Eliseo Montemayor set up shop. Although the country and the world were in the midst of the Great Depression, the visionary Eliseo was not deterred: he understood the depression would not go on forever and that mass production of automobiles for the average American was still in its infancy.
As Eliseo developed the business, his son Oscar took an interest in the trade and applied himself to learning automotive repair until it came time to serve his country in the armed forces, where he kept growing his knowledge by performing the very work his father had mentored him to do. In 1947, Oscar returned home to join his father's business once more.

At the cross streets of Houston and Leona, near today's UTSA downtown campus, Eliseo Montemayor opens his garage in the middle of the Great Depression, knowing mass-produced cars were only getting started.
Eliseo's son Oscar learned the trade from his father, kept repairing vehicles while serving his country in the armed forces, and rejoined the family business in 1947.
Oscar and his wife Angie purchase Eliseo's Garage and move it to its current location on Zarzamora and Leal. The commitment to excellence stays the same.
On January 1, 1991, Bill and Sylvia Montemayor purchase the business from Oscar and Angie. Bill took an interest in the family trade at 16, just as his father had.
Now in its fourth decade under Bill and Sylvia, Eliseo's Garage continues the tradition: respect for self, employees and customers.
A new era
At 16, Bill, one of Oscar and Angie's four sons, took an interest in the family business just as his father had with his. Oscar imparted much wisdom on the automotive repair industry, and Bill learned the value system that built a loyal customer base. On January 1, 1991, Bill and Sylvia purchased the business, making Bill the third generation to own and operate the garage.
Just as Eliseo showed leading-edge insight in 1935, the company continues that tradition, never forgetting the ingredient that has allowed it to exist for so long: respect for self, employees and customers.
